Last weekend I spent Saturday photographing the beautiful wedding of Melinda and Steve in downtown San Francisco, and on Sunday, almost begrudgingly, I went to the Rock Make street festival in the Mission with a friend. I decided I don’t hang out in the Mission very often and felt the need for some inspiration, and nothing like going to the Mission to be inspired! While browsing through local artists’ work (many of which sell on Etsy), I was energetically drawn to this table with a dark haired girl with a typewriter and myriad scraps of paper and postcards. Behold I found my purpose on Sunday. I was blessed by the presence of poet extraordinaire, Sylvi Alcivar. Sylvi explained the process of her writing, so basically I give her a word or topic and she’ll create and type out a poem for me. I provided her with the words, Health, Beer, Isolation, and Mirage. And she began to create some beautiful poems for me, one on a piece of paper I found, and the rest on these very eclectic post cards. Was the best $20 I spent all weekend. Fast forward to this week after conversing a bit through email, Sylvi and I came up with the best ideas for collaborating. She would like me to send some of my photographs, which she could write a poem about highlighting the work and/or me(!) and sell the photographs. I’m also thinking it would be really cool for her to be commissioned to come to the cocktail hour at some of the weddings, of which while the guests are enjoying hor d’oeuvres and cocktails, she could create some of her beautiful poetry for the guests, or even for the wedding couple with ideas from each guest. Just a thought, but definitely could be cool. I’ve seen guests enjoy the photo booth and have also seen the wedding couple commission an artist to create a painting during the cocktail hour and reception. Talk about reliving beautiful memories!
