Lilley • Tahoe Birth Delivery Photography

I asked Liz and Shep if I could photograph the birth of their child. They didn’t have a problem with it, barring HIPPA and hospital rules. I sent a text to Liz asking how she was and then I called in to touch base with Liz’s friend, Liana, on Wednesday afternoon, who would be helping with the birth, and not five minutes later, I get a text that Liz is in labor. Damn, I got some intuition. Liz, her husband, Shep, and Liana arrived at the hospital around 6:30pm Wednesday evening. I arrived about 7:40pm. This would be my first experience witnessing and photographing a birth. I felt like I could bounce off walls, I was so excited to help Liz if she needed me, to be there for support, whatever. I am so thankful, so extremely thankful, that I was allowed to photograph and be support during the birth of Liz and Shep’s first.

I captured about 10 photographs between the hours 8pm and 5:30am. Watching, waiting, and helping with the process of Liz’s labor. At just before 6am, it was time, Liz’s body had prepared her for the delivery. At 6am Thursday morning, the next stage began, and Shep, Liana, and I was so excited to finally meet the new baby. Liz chose not to use any drugs, (damn, I wish I could have her pain threshold) and baby Lilley was born at 6:43am. When Liz thanked me for being there, I couldn’t say a word. I was way too emotional, and was speechless (yes, a rarity for me) to give her a proper thank you. Thank you Liz and Shep for allowing me into your lives to photograph the birth of your first born. I’m coming to visit in the next couple days, camera in hand.:)

Justine & Patrick – Published – Luxe Mountain Weddings

I’m thrilled to share Justine and Paddy’s wedding from back in September was published in the premier issue of Luxe Mountain Weddings magazine. Justine and Paddy had such an amazingly gorgeously stormy sky wedding with amazing light for their September wedding at Meeks Bay Resort. So excited to share their design to inspire other couples for their own weddings. You can check out the online version of the magazine here, if you’re not able to find it locally. I am so very thankful for Justine for really taking the initiative to write about planning her wedding, her thought process to inspire other brides. Thank you Justine!

Liz & Luke – Awaiting Baby – Truckee, Calif.

Liz is three days past her due date with her first child. Barring HIPPA, I plan on photographing her delivery. (Can’t wait to get the text when her contractions are 5 minutes apart!)  There are many photographs I look forward to capturing of Liz and Luke and the birthing of their first. So exciting to be included in this once in a lifetime event. So amazingly exciting. (They have no idea if the baby is a boy or girl) Here’s a quick photo of them totally being themselves in the baby’s room at their new home in Truckee. Liz and Luke are so profound for me to photograph. I say, “Hey, sit on the floor really close together.” And that’s it. They’re so real and honest for the camera. Maybe their nervousness of being photographed in such a position (as Liz does nothing but laugh when she’s nervous), or when they’re together in such a way, it’s like the whole world just stops and they can just be. It’s beautiful. So excited to be there for their first!!!

Rebecca & Sam – Clair Tappan – Soda Springs, Calif.

Rebecca sent me a photograph of her and Sam standing outside in the evening with a fire truck behind them, when she was inquiring about me to photograph her wedding. That photo of her and Sam totally sold me. I like the unexpected, my clients that are totally outside what’s expected. This is what Rebecca said about the photograph: “I included a picture of Sam (my fiance) and I at my cousins recent wedding.  The hotel caught on fire our first night!  Everyone was fine.” Yeah, who wouldn’t want to know that and be a part of that? Good stuff.  Rebecca and Sam were married at the Sierra Club’s Clair Tappan  in the high season of summer, an amazingly gorgeous wedding that was recently featured on Borrowed & Bleu and is a lead wedding on my main website. These moments, a few are on the website, but these are the moments I completely treasure and definitely deserve to be featured here on the blog. Photographed with various medium format film cameras and Canon DSLR equipment.:)Thank you Rebecca and Sam for being so freaking wonderful to photograph!
