I met Nina and her mom when I travelled up to Quincy to visit my friend, Ingrid, and to play around photographically at the Fall Apple Pressing event. I happened into a conversation with Nina’s mom about high school senior portraits. I remember telling her that when I photograph I strive to capture the personality of whom I photograph. I enjoy photographs that are real and show the relationship between people, as well as the personalities of each individual. I think I’m pretty good with bringing out my subject’s personalities when I photograph, which is why I enjoy photographing weddings so much because there’s so much emotion and stress throughout the day, I can tend to be invisible and capture the real story of this once in a lifetime event. Nina contacted me not long after to see if I was willing to photograph her senior portraits. I don’t photograph a lot of senior portraits, mostly because I feel there are so many photographers here in Tahoe, as well as Reno, that do a really nice job, and as I thrive on the interaction and relationship I build with my clients to capture them as they are, instead of a very posed, look at the camera, and smile type portraiture I’ve seen. I definitely remember my senior portraits, and if I had a clue back then, I would’ve wanted photographs that really captured my personality. Nina was all in for my vision. She sent me tons of photographs of what she liked photographically, and had a ton of ideas for her senior portraits. I was so freaking in. I love my clients when they have these incredible ideas that I get to evolve within my vision photographically. Nina and I planned for a couple hours up near her home (she already scouted locations she wanted to be photographed at) and also wanted to have some family portraits captured as well. I told her, “Tell your family to be who they are. I don’t want to see a myriad of white or black shirts with blue jeans. I want to capture everyone’s personality. Who they are. Be true to yourself and let me photograph you as you are.” I had such an amazing experience photographing Nina and her family, in addition to Nina’s senior portraits. My eyes are tearing right now. Besides being totally stoked Justine and Paddy’s Meeks Bay, Lake Tahoe wedding being published in Luxe Mountain Weddings Magazine (check it out here) I was finally able to check out this review Justine wrote of me on Wedding Wire.
Can I tell you again how thankful I am? AAAAAAAaaa!!! Wow. I’m in awe. Thank you Justine and Paddy for being so amazing. *sniff* I want their wedding to happen all over again like now. Even the weather. I loved every moment of it.

Heidi was a perfect fit for us in many ways. My husband and I had different ideas of what kind of wedding photography we liked, but we both seemed to agree that Heidi Huber’s portfolio was amazing. I contacted her kind of late in the game and she was still available for our wedding date. She created a wedding package for us that we could afford and that included: 2 photographers, 6 hours of photography (which we later bumped to 8), a pre wedding consultation at the ceremony/reception site, all of the digital and film negatives in DVD format, and complete satisfaction.Before the wedding Heidi and I had a detailed conversation about what kind of wedding photography I liked, what i was hoping for, what I dreamed about, and other details. She had me create a list of “must have” portraits so she could make a detailed timeline of family photographs. A couple days before the wedding we met Heidi for the first time at the wedding site. She was friendly, fun, quirky, and extremely excited about being involved in our wedding. The weather was a bit dicey, with storms brewing, but she was so excited that the lighting was going to be unreal that it actually made me feel better about the potential rain on our wedding day!
On the day of the wedding Heidi came to the cabin where I was getting ready and the second photographer went to the house where my husband was getting ready. They both captured “getting ready” photos with our families and wedding party. They caught some unbelievable shots during the ceremony as well, catching us at the most raw and emotional moments. Heidi knows how to make family photos look more natural and fun. She makes people laugh, gives great direction, and makes you feel relaxed. Our portraits are insane!!! She used light in ways I could never dream of. We have individual and couple shots that I can’t stop looking at. She even got us out in a canoe for some really fun photos on the lake.
Heidi was able to capture the feeling of our wedding. You can see the laughter, the love, the fun, the mixing of family and friends. She disappeared into the guests and didn’t disturb anyone or make them feel awkward. She even pulled us away from the party for only a minute to catch a photo of us kissing amongst our cocktail tables as the wind blew one of them over, with table cloths flying in the wind. She has an incredible eye for details like that.
Heidi’s photos tell the story of our wedding. They cut straight through to the emotion. The colors are beautiful. She uses digital and film cameras. She is relaxed and fun. I am so thrilled that we chose Heidi to be our photographer, and she makes it known to us often that she was happy to be there to celebrate our wedding with us. Thanks Heidi!!!
